The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Mr. Iheanyi Ubani has warned residents in Umuahia urban ,eateries especially world bank resident who channel their human waste and refuse into drainage to desist as the ministry will no longer tolerate such.

Speaking during the month of April sanitation exercise in Umuahia on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ikechukwu Ukaegbu who is the director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health said that all logistics will be been put in place to arraign defaulters before a mobile court after notices have been served them.

He stressed the need for people to take the issue of cleanliness seriously as they are the immediate beneficiaries adding it is the people’s duty to always observe the protocol of COVID-19 .

Mr.Ubani further said that the ministry carried its operations to specific areas like markets and others successfully and will improve on it regularly.

He however noted that the enforcement and arrest of defaulters during the exercise was not taken seriously because of the judiciary strike, adding that it requires a court to try them.

Also speaking the Executive Chairman of Umuahia North LGA, Hon. Ugochukwu Njikonye noted that the monthly sanitation was the best so far since his inception adding that the council will continue to maintain the tampo

He however urged the residents to come and clean their environment revealing that those loitering and playing football during the exercise will be caught and dealt with accordingly.
