Residents in Ohafia L.G.A, of Abia State have been advised to always keep their environment clean to be healthy.
This according to the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA Manager, Ohafia Waste Management Zone, Hon. James Ndukwe can be achieved by avoiding indiscriminate
dumping of refuse.
Interacting with a cross section of Journalists shortly after the month of July, 2021 sanitation exercise in Ohafia, Hon. Ndukwe implored residents to ensure that the cleanup exercise was observed at their various houses during the period.
He stressed that it was imperative that all drainage channels be kept free of silts and refuse to avoid
flooding of homes that could lead to the loss of lives and property.
The Ohafia zone ASEPA Manager lauded the determination of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to keep Abia environment clean at all times, and called on Abians to reciprocate the state government’s gesture by protecting and keeping their
environment clean.
He decried that Ohafia indigenes are yet to own the exercise, as most of them still see it as only Government sanitation exercise.
Hon. Ndukwe called on such group of people to turn a new leaf and corporate with ASEPA during the monthly cleanup exercise, adding, “We must comply with the state government’s directive on monthly sanitation for healthy living. Also a healthy nation is a wealthy nation”.
Areas covered during the exercise include: OGS, Amaekpu, Elu, Ebem and Mami market opposite Army barracks, and Ebem Ohafia.
