The Enyimba Garment factory Aba built by The IKPEAZU administration has been commissioned.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony Governor Okezie Ikpeazu noted that Leather and Garment Production are amongst the 5 pillars of development enunciated by his administration.
While recalling that his administration had earlier established the Enyimba Automated Shoe Factory ENASCO, he said that the 560-piece Enyimba Garment factory will enhance the capacity of Aba Tailors .
Governor Ikpeazu added that Aba Tailors will no longer use their hands to cut materials, stressing that the factory is capable of producing the number of uniforms required by the Police, Military, Correctional Service, Immigration among others.
According to him, with the existence of the factory, the Federal Government and indeed Nigerians have no reason to import finished textile materials from outside the country as such will amount to lack of patriotism..
Speaking while commissioning the project, the Governor of Enugu State , Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi expressed the hope that the factory will take Aba tailors to another level.
Governor Ugwuanyi made public that the future of the garment industry depends on automation and congratulated the Abia state government for achieving the feat.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Industry and Promotions, Barrister Akujuobi Nkoro said that the factory is the first its kind in the South East, noting that neccessary equipment for full production have been installed, while employment opportunities for hundreds of persons will be created in addition to improving the revenue base of the state government.
In his speech also , the Transition Committee Chairman of Obingwa LGA, Mr George Ubani described the Garment Factory as one of the legacy projects of the Ikpeazu administration, adding that history will not forget the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
The event which attracted the presence of the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu ,House Committee Chairman on Industry, Hon Chijioke Chukwu, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, Service Commanders, Traditional Rulers, etc featured presentation of certificates to Mr Geoffrey Adiele and Chioma Nwagboso who were recently trained in Turkey on garment production.
