The Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency in the Abia state House of Assembly, Hon. Ugochukwu Collins Iheonunekwu has called on the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa to immediately address the anomaly in the House and ensure that the People’s Democratic Party PDP, being the majority gets their rightful positions.

Hon. Iheonunekwu who made the call while featuring in a radio interactive program, Open Parliament at Love FM Umuahia, described the ongoing leadership saga at the State House of Assembly as undemocratic and urged the speaker to do the needful.

In his words, “PDP has 11 members, Labour 10 members, YPP 2 members, APC 1 member. By the books, the House rules Section 42 which says, there shall be a majority Leader of the House, and he shall be a member nominated from the Party with the highest number of Members in the House. This is very explicit and without ambiguity as even a child understands this” he said.

Citing the case of Labour Party in Enugu state where the Labour Party were in the majority and produced the majority leader, Hon. Iheonunekwu warned against going by the alignment of YPP and APC lawmakers with the LP, pointing out that such move which is against the laid down rules of the House will only help in deepening the ongoing crisis in the State House.
