There is heavy tension on the floor of the Abia State House of Assembly over the position of the Principal officers of the House.
The crisis started at the House immediately after the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa recognized Hon. Uchenna Okoro, a member representing Arochukwu State Constituency as the leader of the House.
In a swift response, the member representing Obingwa East State Constituency Hon. Solomon Akpulonu raised a point of order and informed the Speaker that there is nothing like Majority Leader in the 8th Assembly and urged him to read the letter written to him by the Leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in the State.
According to our source at the State Assembly, all members of the 8th Assembly elected under the platform of the PDP stood up and mandated the speaker to read the letter as submitted by the Leadership of the Party in the state.
In his response, the Speaker informed the agitating members that the letter has been submitted and taken by events and no one will tell him how to run the State Assembly.
He suspended plenary and left the floor of the House.
The 8th Abia State House of Assembly has been at war with itself for weeks now over the position of Principal officers of the House.
Presently at the State Assembly, PDP has 11 members, Labour Party 10, YPP 2, and APC 1.
