The Deputy Governor of Edo State Comrade Philip Shaibu has dragged the state Governor Godwin Obaseki, Edo state House of Assembly, Inspector General of Police and chief Judge of Edo state before A federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Nation’s capital, asking the Court to restrain the above mentioned from carrying out an impeachment action against him and stopping any action gearing towards removing him from office.

According to our sources in Benin city the Federal high court has refused to grant restraining order on the matter brought before it, the petitioner is praying for the court to restrain the Edo state House of Assembly, Chief Judge of Edo State, Governor of the State, Inspector General of Police from impeaching from Office.

There has been a cold war between the Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy Philip Shaibu, which is linked to the race for Osadebe House come 2024.

The cold war started during the build up to 2023 General Election and when the Governor made it clear that he is not ready to discuss politics of who replaces him in 2024.

It was gathered that this decision which didn’t go down well with the Deputy Governor brought division between the Governor’s camp and that of his Deputy.

Prior to the Edo Local Government election which was earlier scheduled to hold around May 2023, the Deputy Governor seem to have promised all Local Government chairmen from Edo North but was resisted by some key stakeholders with the backing of the Governor.

The Deputy Governor also made moves to install the Speaker of the Edo state House of Assem when he noticed that the Governor didn’t show interest in producing the Speaker of the State Assembly. Along the line the Governor picked interest and the Deputy Governor was denied access to the meeting venue the day the Governor met with House Members’ elect.

According to sources the Deputy Governor in his bid to replace Obaseki has realigned with his former boss and Senator Adams Oshomole which was further justified when he attended Oshomole’s inauguration party in Abuja.

Some close aides to Governor Obaseki have accused him of playing the G5 style of politics meant to cause confusion in PDP while another party takes over Osadebe House.
