The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has resigned his position from the bank, paving the way for President Bola Tinubu to nominate former head of Citibank in Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, to serve as the apex bank’s Governor.
According to Reuters, Emefiele, who was suspended as the apex bank chief and later detained by the Department of State Service (DSS) in June, resigned as the Governor of the CBN last month.
It is however unclear if the former deputy governors, who are to be replaced by four new nominees of the President has also resigned.
Emefiele sent his resignation letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last week.
