In a well attended meeting of Leaders and Stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ukwa East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency of Abia State, today, Tuesday, the 27th day of February, 2024, at Akwete, it was noted with disbelief and dismay that some spurious and nefarious publications were being made by a faceless group known as Abia PDP ‘Redemption’ Movement on some Social Media platforms in recent times, that are capable of causing disaffection in the Party in Abia State.
Our Leaders and Stakeholders observed with consternation that the faceless group, against historical realities of 2023 General Election, had the temerity of asking our Illustrious Son and the State Chairman of the Party in the State, Rt. Hon. Dr Alwell Asiforo Okere, to resign.
While we acknowledge the rights of any individual or association to freedom of speech and expression, as constitutionally-guaranteed, we, the Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency strongly believe that such rights must be exercised within the ambits of truth and reasonableness, devoid of malice and falsehood.
The tales being told by the faceless group of blackmailers, apart from being at variance with what actually happened in the 2023 General Election, is capable of creating distraction at a time the Party should be united as to offer a formidable opposition to the present Labour Party Government in the State.
Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency have, therefore, found it compelling to issue the following Communiqué;
(1) That we, Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency, do, hereby, pass a vote of Explicit Confidence in the State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, Rt Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D and urge him not to be distracted by the nefarious past time of any faceless group but rather to remain focussed on his job as the constitutionally-elected Chairman of PDP in Abia State,
(2) That the position Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D is occupying was specifically zoned to Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency by the State Caucus of PDP in Abia State and that since he did not commit any known offence against PDP, he will complete his constitutional tenure as Chairman of PDP in Abia State,
(3) That we, Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency, are of the opinion that PDP in Abia State should, instead of resorting to vilify and denigrate him, commend the performance of the Chairman of PDP in Abia State, Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D, who, despite the famous Peter Obi election wave in the State, was able to work assiduously with Leaders and Stakeholders in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency to produce two State House of Assembly Members for the two State Constituencies in the Federal Constituency, Hon Lewis Obianyi and Hon Godwin Adiele for Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West State Constituencies, respectively, and also produce the only PDP elected Member of House of Representatives, out of Eight Seats in the State, Hon Chris Nkwonta,
(4) That since Elections are won in Polling Units, we are proud to reaffirm that the State Chairman, Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D, made sure that PDP was victorious in all elections in 2023 not only in his Polling Unit, his Ward but also in his Local Government Area and his Federal Constituency,
(5) That Leaders and Stakeholders in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency are sad to remember that if Leaders and Stakeholders from the other Seven Federal Constituencies in the State had replicated what the State Chairman, Leaders and Stakeholders had done in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency, the miserable state of our Party in Abia State today would have taken an entirely different narrative,
(6) That we, Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency, have always known that Election Results are never hidden and, so, we challenge the faceless group requesting for the resignation of Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D, to make their identities known and together with their hidden sponsors make available the results of 2023 General Election in their respective Polling Units, Wards and Local Government Areas,
(7) That Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency do, hereby, state without any equivocation, that any Leader who did not have the capacity to deliver his or her Polling Unit and Ward in 2023 General Election is, at best, a political nonentity and, therefore, an undesirable misnomer that lacks both political and legal qualification in every respect to call for the resignation of Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D, as Chairman of PDP in Abia State,
(8) That the Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency do, hereby, state, without any fear of contradiction, that, as at today, Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency is unarguably the stronghold of PDP in Abia State and we will vehemently resist any unjustifiable attempt, overt or covert, to ridicule our own illustrious Son by any means of dirty and irresponsible propaganda,
(9) That Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency do wish to warn, at this juncture, that those living in glass houses should caution themselves not to throw stones, as our Son, Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D, does not live in any glass house and, so, when we are compelled to throw stones, we will be relentless in throwing stones, knowing that there will be no collateral damage on the part of our Son, and
(10) That Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency, being conscious of the incontrovertible fact that we are the only Federal Constituency that successfully resisted betraying PDP in Abia State in the 2023 General Election and, therefore, is the pride of PDP in Abia State do, hereby, call on all Leaders and Stakeholders of PDP in the other Seven Federal Constituencies to come and join hands with us in order to rebuild and reposition our Party, PDP, in order to regain her past glory which was avoidably lost due to betrayal by Leaders and Stakeholders from other Federal Constituencies.
