The Abia State PDP 2023 governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe has sent warm birthday greetings to frontline politician, banker, philanthropist and former Pro-Chancellor of University of Calabar, Distinguished Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu, PhD, CON, who represented Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives (2003 to 2007), and Abia Central Senatorial Zone between 2007 and 2015.

Chief Ahiwe remarked in his birthday message that Senator Nwaogu has had a remarkably excellent career as an innovative leader in the public and private sector establishments she was opportune to serve, leaving legacies that have passed the test of time.

According to him. “Senator Nwaogu is known for her uncommon and inspiring profile, built over the years by making indelible marks wherever she was opportune to serve. Her experience as a financial technocrat was evident in her dogged pursuit of restoration of rules and order in Nigeria’s financial sector when she chaired the House Committee on Banking and Insurance, and she fearlessly advocated for transparency and accountably in the nation’s Oil & Gas sector as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas Resources. She recorded similar milestones as a member of the ECOWAS Parliament and Director for West Africa Region, African Parliamentarian Network Against Corruption (APNAC).

“Much later, as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, University of Calabar, she vigorously supported the election of the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University. At the home front, her revered title of Ugo Nwanyi Ndi Igbo has been for her a commission to raise the flag of Igbo renaissance as a vital spine of patriotism in the larger national context. She is an iconic treasure to Ndi Igbo and Nigeria.”

While wishing Senator Nkechi Nwaogu a joyful birthday anniversary and greater years of Divine blessings, Chief Ahiwe charged her to consider documenting her vast leadership experience in a compendium for the benefit of younger ones and aspiring leaders.
