The Senate has called for an urgent session tomorrow to review President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supplementary budget proposal for the 2024 fiscal year.

A formal proposal for acquiring a new presidential aircraft is anticipated to be presented to the National Assembly within a Supplementary Appropriation Bill.

Members of Congress, from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, started their break last week and are expected to return on July 2, 2024.

The Senate plans to convene for a plenary session on Thursday, addressing various matters including appropriation, as confirmed by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs for the APC representing Ekiti South. He made this announcement on Wednesday.

He said, “It’s our statutory resumption from the Sallah break. Senate has the constitutional power to regulate its sessions and we believe that we could gain one more legislative day to deal with national and constitutional issues, hence the bringing forward from the initial July 2.

“We hope to deal with issues concerning our further oversight on the appropriations and clear further the hanging issues of constitutional and electoral concerns. And clear outstanding bills and motions, expectedly before our annual recess, later in the year.”
