In fulfilment of part of his campaign promises,the Honourable Member Representing Ukwa West and East Federal Constituency,Hon. Chris Nkwonta has officially opened his constituency office at Obehie-Asa in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of the State and awarded bursary to 200 students from Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the event held at Obehie-Asa,the Federal Lawmaker, Hon.Chris Nkwonta maintained that he is in politics due to his dissatisfaction with the poor representation of his people in the past 24 years at the National Assembly.
He lamented that the poor representation of Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly has affected his constituents negatively, with little or no socio-economic development in the area.
Nkwonta who code-named the Ukwa Federal Constituency office as a ‘Restoration Centre’, said that the office would foster engagements and strengthen the bond between him and his constituents.
He affirmed that the office would serve as a centre for dialogue, collaboration and action among others, urging his constituents to take advantage of the office for their collective interest.
The Ndoki-born business mogul and politician who had previously awarded scholarships to about 230 indigent secondary school students, announced N50,000 per student bursary award to 200 students in tertiary institutions across the Wards in Ukwa Federal Constituency.
He added that the essence of the bursaries is to alleviate the sufferings of the students and enhance Human Capital Development of his constituents.
Nkwonta implored the beneficiaries of the bursaries to show dedication, diligence and commitment to their chosen course of study, wishing them the best in their academics.
Inaugurating the constituency office,a former Federal Lawmaker that represented Ukwa Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt.Hon.Emeka Stanley, thanked Hon.Nkwonta for living up to his campaign promises, noting that he has performed creditably within a year in office.
He disclosed that they would continue to support Hon.Nkwonta vision to better the fortune of Ukwa people through quality and effective representation, promising that Nkwonta will not fail his constituents.
One of the beneficiaries of the bursaries and the President of the National Union of Asa Students, Comrade James Daniel, who expressed his gratitude on behalf of the students to Hon.Nkwonta, also thanked him for his benevolence, adding that Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West students have never had it in this manner before in the past..
He promised that the student community from the area would continue to support Hon. Nkwonta, praying God to continue to bless and preserve the lawmaker.
His Special Assistant on Media, Comrade Ugwumba Adiele reports that the highpoint of the ceremony,was the presentation of a ten million naira cheque to the students while the event attracted the presence of Stakeholders from Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Local Government Areas.
