The Imo State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for their alleged involvement in a plot to impeach the Speaker of the House, Chike Olemgbe.
The suspended legislators are Samuel Otuibe (Ahiazu-Mbaise constituency), Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte-Mbaise constituency), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Okigwe constituency), and Dominic Ezerioha (Oru-west).
The suspension was announced by Speaker Chike Olemgbe during the plenary session on Tuesday. Olemgbe stated that the decision to suspend the lawmakers was made during an executive session of the House.
In addition to their suspension, the affected lawmakers have been banned from participating in the activities of the standing committees to which they belong. Speaker Olemgbe also announced a reshuffling of the standing committees as part of the legislative body’s response to the situation.
