The Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly has suspended all expenditures by the Rivers State governor until Governor Siminalayi Fubara presents the state budget before the House.
This decision comes after the lawmakers issued a seven-day ultimatum for the governor to submit the 2024 budget. The ultimatum expired without compliance from Governor Fubara.
House Leader Major Jack raised a motion alerting the assembly to the expiration of the ultimatum. After deliberation, the House voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, effectively preventing the Fubara administration from spending any state funds until the budget is presented.
The move signifies the Assembly’s firm stance on fiscal accountability and transparency in the state’s financial management.
