…. Issues Communiqué Following Emergency Meeting

The Abia State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened an emergency meeting on July 26, 2024, to address current developments affecting the party and the upcoming PDP congresses. The meeting concluded with several key resolutions aimed at fortifying the party’s integrity and commitment to good governance.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the SWC announced the following resolutions:
1. Vote of Confidence:The committee passed a vote of confidence on the state Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Dr. Alwell Asiforo Okere, affirming their support for his leadership.
2. Commitment to Free and Fair Congresses: The PDP reaffirmed its readiness and commitment to conducting free and fair congresses, emphasizing transparency in the electoral process.
3. Call for Unity and Integrity: Party members were urged to remain resolute and dedicated to promoting the ideals and integrity of the PDP.
4. Advancement of Good Governance: The party reiterated its dedication to respecting and advancing good governance principles.
5. Support for Rule of Law: The PDP emphasized its unwavering commitment to supporting and defending the rule of law.
6. Holding Government Accountable: The party committed to promoting the best ideals of a shadow government by continuously holding the Alex Otti-led administration accountable, ensuring transparency in the conduct of Abia State’s government affairs.
7. Trust in National Working Committee: The SWC expressed confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC) to conduct credible, free, and fair congresses across the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
8. Appreciation for Postponement of Ward Congresses: The SWC appreciated the NWC’s decision to postpone the ward congresses due to operational reasons and assured members that they would be promptly informed of new dates once communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The communiqué was signed by Hon. Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP Vice Chairman and Acting State Publicity Secretary, who concluded with the party’s slogan, “PDP: Power to the People!”
