Abuja, Nigeria

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel alert to Nigerian citizens planning to visit the United Kingdom. This alert follows a surge in violence and disorder in the UK, sparked by the tragic killing of three young girls at a concert.

According to the press release, the violence has escalated to dangerous levels, evidenced by attacks on law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure. Nigerian citizens are advised to exercise caution and take the following measures:

– Avoid political processions, protests, rallies, or marches.
– Stay clear of crowded areas and large gatherings.
– Maintain vigilance and self-awareness at all times.
– Contact the Nigerian High Commission for any relevant information via email at hc@nigeriahc.org.uk or telephone at +442078391244.

The Ministry highlighted that recent demonstrations, particularly by far-right and other extra-parliamentary groups, have been significant and unruly. These disturbances have been exacerbated by the deaths of the three girls and have fueled an anti-immigration narrative, targeting Muslim immigrants and people of color.

The travel advisory will remain under review.
