The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally disowned a Notice of Discontinuance filed in the matter of Appeal No: CA/PH/307/2024 – Peoples Democratic Party v. Attorney-General of Rivers State & 33 Ors. The appeal concerns a legal dispute involving the party and the Rivers State government, among other defendants.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, dated August 16, 2024, and signed by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the PDP clarified its position. The letter indicates that the party did not authorize the filing of the said Notice of Discontinuance, which was submitted by one Femi Ebaba Esq., reportedly on the instruction of A.K. Ajibade SAN, on July 24, 2024.
The PDP emphasized that it is fully prepared to continue with the appeal and expressed its concern over the unauthorized filing. The party urged the Justices of the Court of Appeal to take note that it remains committed to prosecuting the appeal to its conclusion.
This development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal battle between the PDP and the Rivers State government, further highlighting internal conflicts within the party regarding the case. The hearing for this appeal is scheduled for Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
