The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the recent kidnapping of 20 medical students in Otukpo, Benue State. The students were abducted while en route to Enugu for the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students. The IGP described the incident as a reprehensible, callous, and unacceptable act.

In response to the abduction, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of significant human and technical resources to reinforce the Benue State Police Command. This deployment aims to ensure the swift and safe rescue of the abducted students. The measures include mobilizing additional tactical units from the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) and Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT). Advanced helicopters, drones, and specialized tactical vehicles have also been deployed to facilitate the search and rescue mission.

The Nigeria Police Force stands in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time, reaffirming its commitment to securing the safe return of the students. The IGP assured the public that the police will leave no stone unturned in pursuing the perpetrators of this crime and others involved in similar criminal activities.

The IGP also called on the general public to assist the police by providing any useful information or actionable intelligence that could aid the ongoing investigation and rescue operation. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the nearest police station, the state command control room, or the Force Headquarters via the provided contact email (Pressforabuja@police.gov.ng) and other helplines.
