Benin City, Edo StateĀ

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised serious concerns about alleged harassment and abduction of its members by suspected rogue police officers. The party is calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, and the State Commissioner of Police to investigate and address the situation.

According to the PDP, these officers, who are reportedly part of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Abuja, have been acting under the orders of CSP Ibrahim Angbasa. The officers are accused of operating outside their jurisdiction, carrying AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, and targeting PDP leaders across the stateā€™s three senatorial districts. The party claims that these actions are aimed at weakening its position ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Among those allegedly targeted is Hon. Kingsley Osahon, a councilor representing Ward 10 in Esan North East Local Government Area. The PDP also indicated that other key party members, including the Chairman of Esan North East Local Government Area, Dr. Kelly Inedegbor, are on a list of individuals marked for abduction by these rogue officers.

The PDP has called on the IGP, the AIG Zone 5, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, and other relevant security agencies to take immediate action to prevent further harassment and to ensure that the police officers involved are held accountable.

The party emphasized that no amount of intimidation will deter it from defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming election.

Rev. Olu Martins, Deputy Director General of the Asue Ogie Campaign Management, signed the statement, reiterating the PDPā€™s commitment to safeguarding its members and ensuring a free and fair election in Edo State.
