In a dramatic turn of events, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State and current Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, threatening to cause unrest in any PDP-controlled state that attempts to interfere with the Rivers State PDP structure.
Addressing party faithfuls at the state congress held today at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Wike strongly condemned any plans to transfer the party’s control from his loyalists to the current Rivers State Governor, Sir Sim Fubara. He criticized Governor Fubara’s faction, describing them as “finished” and assured his supporters that the party structure would remain intact under their control.
“They are finished. Let me assure all of you, as long as we live, nobody will take away the PDP structure from us,” Wike declared, exuding confidence. He further expressed disdain for any governors plotting to undermine his influence in Rivers State, ominously warning, “I hear that there are some governors who said they will take away the structure and give it to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.”
The PDP held state congresses in several states today to elect new State Working Committees that will steer the party’s affairs in the coming years. However, the situation in Rivers State remains tense as Wike’s threats signal a potential intra-party conflict, raising concerns over the stability of PDP leadership in the region.
