The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has launched an initiative to collect the names of unemployed nurses and midwives across the country. In a circular dated 2nd September 2024, signed by Elder Otaru Daniel Shaibu, the Deputy General Secretary for the General Secretary, the association has called on all state and federal capital territory councils, including specialist and pressure groups, to submit the names of nurses and midwives who are currently without employment.
According to the notice, NANNM has requested that these unemployed professionals approach the nearest NANNM unit to submit their names along with their nursing practicing licenses and other relevant documents. These details are to be compiled and sent to the National Secretariat by the State Councils by Tuesday, 17th September 2024.
The association emphasizes the importance of this exercise, urging wide circulation of the notice to ensure that all unemployed nurses and midwives are aware and can participate.
This move by NANNM is seen as a proactive step towards addressing unemployment in the nursing and midwifery profession, potentially leading to better employment opportunities and professional development for its members.
