The Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has suspended the Chairman of the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Otonye Briggs, with immediate effect.
In a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the suspension was announced on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Governor Fubara directed Bitebobo Nelson Amieye to assume the role of Caretaker Committee Chairman of the local government.
Additionally, the governor instructed Briggs to hand over all council property in his possession to Amieye without delay.
The reason for Briggs’ suspension was not disclosed in the statement.
