Barrister Ikenna Edozie, the State Chairman of Action Alliance and the Legal Adviser to the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Abia State, has raised serious concerns regarding the Labour Party’s participation in the upcoming Local Government Elections. In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Edozie highlighted the expiration of the tenure of the Comrade Julius Abure-led National Executive Council of the Labour Party. This development, he stated, renders the party incapable of holding valid primaries or nominating candidates for the elections.
Edozie referenced Article 28 of the Labour Party’s Constitution, emphasizing that without a subsisting National Executive Council, the nomination of candidates would be unconstitutional. He urged ABSIEC to reject any nominations from the Labour Party’s caretaker committee and warned of potential legal consequences and political instability if this matter is not addressed.
The letter was also copied to His Excellency, Chief Dr. Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State.
