The immediate past Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike, has disclosed the underlying cause of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s flagship program *Politics Today*, Wike stated that the conflict began when the current Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, attempted to impeach the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule. Wike explained that this move triggered the unrest that has since engulfed the state.

He further denied any involvement in the burning of a local government office, distancing himself from allegations surrounding the incident.
