The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially scheduled the Anambra State governorship election for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

In a meeting held on Thursday, October 17, at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, confirmed the date, signaling the start of political preparations for the state.

Prof. Yakubu announced: “The last governorship election in Anambra State was held on November 6, 2021, and by constitutional requirement, the next is due in 2025. Accordingly, the Commission has approved November 8, 2025, as the date for the election.”

He also outlined the key dates for the electoral process:
Election notice publication: November 13, 2024
Party primaries: March 20 to April 10, 2025
Candidate nomination portal

Opens on April 18, 2025, and closes on May 12, 2025, Final candidate list publication

: June 9, 2025 Campaign window starts , ends June 11, 2025, to midnight, November 6, 2025
