…Vows to Fight On
Abuja, May 25, 2025 – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has declared his withdrawal from all previously reached agreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent dishonesty, betrayal, and violation of key resolutions by party stakeholders.
In a strongly worded statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” Wike accused top party figures, particularly Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, of engineering internal discord and breaching gentlemen’s agreements aimed at stabilizing the party after the 2023 general elections.
According to Wike, multiple reconciliation meetings had been held—first in Lagos among G5 members and later at Senator Bukola Saraki’s guest house in Abuja. These meetings, which included governors and key PDP leaders, had resulted in clear resolutions: recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, the withdrawal of all legal cases involving Rivers State, and unity in implementing agreed decisions.
However, Wike alleged that before a reconciliation committee led by Saraki could begin its work, agreements were already being violated. He pointed to Makinde’s alleged collaboration with Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State in organizing meetings to unseat Senator Anyanwu and pushing for a different candidate from the South-East, despite earlier consensus.
He also condemned attempts to legitimize actions taken by the Deputy National Secretary, whom he claimed unlawfully signed letters—including invitations to INEC—leading to the collapse of the PDP’s zonal elective congress in Jos.
Wike expressed deep disappointment, citing his long-standing contributions to the PDP and accusing current leaders of ingratitude and political betrayal. “I have been in this party since 1998… None of these persons have done anything close to what I have done to sustain this party,” he stated.
Concluding his statement, Wike announced: “I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”
His declaration signals a further escalation in the ongoing PDP crisis, threatening to widen internal fractures ahead of crucial party decisions and the 2027 general elections.
