The Abia State Police Command has responded to an online alarm raised by one Mrs. Chioma Chikadibia, who alleged the unlawful detention of her husband, Mr. Sunday Chikadibia, and their three daughters. The Command described the claims as “misleading, untrue, and intended to misinform the public.”

In a press release issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, the Command explained that the individuals in question were lawfully arrested as suspects and accessories in an ongoing investigation into a case of kidnapping and murder.

“Upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects were duly arraigned in court and are currently remanded at the Correctional Centre by the order of a competent court,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, used the opportunity to warn the public against shielding criminal suspects, stressing that such actions constitute an offence under Nigerian law and may render accomplices liable to prosecution.

“Shielding criminal suspects makes one an accomplice, and this is a punishable offence,” CP Isa stated.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the rule of law, professionalism, and transparency, CP Isa assured the public that the Abia State Police Command continues to operate in alignment with the principles of people-friendly and lawful policing as championed by the Inspector-General of Police.

“We remain dedicated to internal discipline and accountability as we carry out our constitutional mandate to protect lives and property across Abia State,” the statement concluded.
