As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks two years in office on May 29, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has delivered a damning assessment of his administration, labeling it a “massive disappointment” and a “nightmare” for Nigerians.
In a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, the opposition party condemned the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government, accusing it of widespread economic mismanagement, spiraling insecurity, unchecked corruption, and a disconnect from the plight of the Nigerian people.
“Nigerians have gone through hell under this insensitive APC administration. The Tinubu government has proven itself anti-people and incapable of addressing the challenges facing our nation,” the statement read.
The PDP criticized what it described as the administration’s asphyxiating economic policies, including the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy and sharp devaluation of the naira, which it said have crippled businesses, heightened inflation, and worsened unemployment.
The party noted that under the current government:
The naira has plummeted from N167/\$ under PDP to over N1,600/\$
The price of petrol has soared from N87/litre to over N1,000/litre
Inflation has reached nearly 40%
Youth unemployment** exceeds 42%
Insecurity has led to the deaths of over 600,000 Nigerians since May 2023, according to the PDP
The statement also expressed concern over the exit of multinational corporations from Nigeria, citing deteriorating infrastructure and economic instability.
On public spending, the PDP lambasted the APC administration for what it called “lavish lifestyles and reckless borrowing,” referencing a total debt stock nearing N183 trillion and a fresh foreign loan request of over \$24 billion.
“Instead of alleviating the sufferings of the people, the APC is busy turning Nigeria into a one-party state while squandering resources on luxury,” the PDP alleged.
Calling on President Tinubu to use the remaining two years of his tenure to “redeem his image,” the opposition party demanded a reversal of harsh economic policies, urgent action on insecurity, and the inclusion of more competent hands in governance.
As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, the PDP urged citizens to stay hopeful and rally around its platform to “vote out the APC and its woes.”
The party concluded by warning President Tinubu against using his upcoming anniversary address to peddle “rhetoric and false performance claims.
