The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has issued a strong directive to all political appointees, elected officials, and party executives who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to immediately resign their PDP membership.

In a press release signed by Hon. Uyoata Friday Asam-Eyo, National Ex-officio representing Akwa Ibom and member of the PDP’s National Executive Committee, the party emphasized the need for defectors to tender their resignation letters to their respective ward chairmen across the 368 wards in the state.

The move, according to the statement, is intended to help the party identify its remaining loyal members and leaders who are still committed to the vision and values of the PDP’s founding fathers.

Highlighting the party’s legacy, the statement recalled PDP’s dominance in Akwa Ibom politics since 1999, overseeing the transformation of the state into a notable destination. The PDP had, until recently, produced councillors, state and national legislators, and governors.

The press release also referenced the defection of Governor Pastor Umo Eno to the APC on June 6, 2025, describing it as a “minor setback” rather than a crisis. The party expressed confidence in its resilience and vowed to reposition itself for a strong comeback ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement concluded with a rallying call to supporters, reaffirming the party’s continued relevance in the political landscape of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large.

“Long live PDP! Long live Akwa Ibom State! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!” the statement read.
