The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded another major success in its fight against cross-border crimes with the recovery of several stolen vehicles trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana and Niger Republic. The breakthrough was achieved through coordinated international operations led by INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja.

According to a statement from the Force Headquarters, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja, in partnership with INTERPOL NCB Accra, recovered a stolen Toyota Prado (2020 model) in Accra, Ghana. The vehicle, which was reported stolen during a robbery incident in Abuja, belonged to a Federal Government agency. Three suspects were arrested in Ghana in connection with the theft and have already been charged to court in Accra. The vehicle has since been returned to Nigeria and handed over to the appropriate agency.

In a similar operation, a Toyota Hilux (2018 model) — also belonging to a government agency — was recovered in Agadez, Niger Republic. The vehicle had been stolen in the Utako District of Abuja on October 18, 2024. The recovery was made possible through international collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Niamey, and the vehicle was officially handed over to Nigerian officials at the Ilela/Konni border.

In a related development, the Police are finalizing arrangements to retrieve two more vehicles — a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV — stolen from Abuja residents in May 2025 and later sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the efficiency and professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to strengthening global policing collaboration. He also praised the critical support of INTERPOL NCB Accra, INTERPOL NCB Niamey, and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra for their assistance in the operations.

The Force urged Nigerian citizens to register their vehicles on the Police electronic platforms and take precautionary steps to aid swift recovery in cases of theft.

The IGP reiterated that the NPF under his leadership remains focused on enhancing international cooperation to combat transnational crimes and ensure justice is served.
