Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, says the state has recorded significant progress in tackling violent attacks across its communities, noting that the number of affected local government areas has dropped from 17 to just three.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Governor Alia highlighted the efforts of his administration and security agencies in pushing back the violence that has plagued the state for years.

“At the peak of the attacks, 17 local government areas were under siege,” the governor said. “We fought it down to 9, then to 6, and now we are dealing with just 3 local governments. That’s a huge milestone.”

He described the reduction as a testament to the resilience of the state government, security forces, and local communities, while reiterating his commitment to achieving total peace and stability across Benue.

Governor Alia’s remarks come amid renewed presidential directives for tighter security and reconciliation efforts in the state, following fresh rounds of violence that left several people dead.
