Political activist and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has claimed that he and former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce were instrumental in the selection of Peter Obi as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential election.
Omokri made the revelation while speaking on the behind-the-scenes moves that led to Obi’s emergence. According to him, the duo not only recommended Obi for the vice-presidential slot but also played a key role in packaging and promoting his candidacy.
“I and Senator Ben Bruce were responsible for Atiku picking Peter Obi as his running mate in 2019. We packaged Peter Obi,” Omokri stated.
He further disclosed that the much-publicized meeting between Peter Obi and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was facilitated by him and Ben Bruce.
“When Peter Obi met with Boris Johnson, it wasn’t Peter Obi that arranged the meeting. I took him to Boris Johnson, myself and Ben Bruce. He cannot deny it,” Omokri added.
The statement has stirred reactions across political circles, with many questioning the implications of the revelation on Peter Obi’s political trajectory.
