Former presidential aide and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has revealed that he turned down an offer from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to serve as his spokesperson during the 2019 presidential campaign.

Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, Omokri explained that he refused the role in order to maintain consistency in his political engagements.

“Atiku wanted me to be his spokesperson. I said no. I’m not going to be a spokesperson for a president and then be a spokesperson for a presidential candidate,” Omokri said.

Despite declining the position, Omokri noted that he played a crucial role in building Atiku’s media team, including the hiring of Segun Showunmi, who eventually served as the campaign spokesperson.

“I hired his media team. I hired Segun Showunmi; I interviewed him and set his salary,” he added.

The revelation offers a rare insight into the inner workings of Atiku’s campaign and Omokri’s behind-the-scenes influence.
