The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has received a total of 110 applications from associations seeking registration as political parties.
According to the Commission, as of Monday, 23rd June 2025, 110 associations have submitted letters of intent to become political parties. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the applications are currently being processed in accordance with the legal provisions and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines.
“We have acknowledged all requests received so far except six, which were submitted recently. These will be acknowledged before the end of the week,” Prof. Yakubu said.
He emphasized that interested groups and individuals can access the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022, which is already available on the Commission’s official website.
In a move to ensure transparency and public awareness, INEC has also released the full list of the 110 associations seeking registration. The list includes each group’s proposed name, acronym, contact address, and the names of their Chairmen and Secretaries.
Prof. Yakubu confirmed that the list would be uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms, while hard copies were made available to participants at the meeting where the announcement was made.
