President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly asked Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to step down from his position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), paving the way for a new appointment in the nation’s diplomatic corps.
Multiple authoritative sources informed Saturday Vanguard that Ganduje’s resignation was not due to health reasons, as earlier speculated, but rather a strategic move ahead of his nomination for an ambassadorial role.
A source within the party’s hierarchy, who pleaded anonymity, revealed:
“Due to the fact that Ganduje has been pencilled down for an ambassadorial position, President Bola Tinubu asked him to resign. Other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will remain in office. Only Ganduje was asked to resign.”
In the wake of this development, preparations are underway for a special national convention of the APC, where a new party chairman will be elected to steer the party’s affairs.
This move, political analysts say, aligns with President Tinubu’s broader strategy of rewarding loyalty while repositioning key political figures for national and international assignments. The official list of ambassadorial nominees is expected to be released in the coming days.
