Armed police operatives have taken over the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza, in Abuja, amid rising tension ahead of the party’s crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for today.

Security was visibly heightened at the party headquarters, with policemen restricting access into the premises. Among those barred was a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Maina Chiroma, who was denied entry by the security operatives.

Sources within the party told Channels Television that the deployment of police officers was allegedly aimed at stopping the proposed Expanded Caucus Meeting of the NEC.

Initially, some PDP staff members were allowed to enter the secretariat; however, they were later instructed to vacate the premises. Journalists covering the party’s activities were also asked to leave the area.

The development has fueled speculation over deepening internal disagreements within the PDP as its leadership grapples with key decisions expected at the NEC meeting.

Further details are expected as the situation unfolds.
