Abuja, July 3, 2025 – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, following his sharp criticisms of opposition leaders during a media chat earlier today.

In a strongly worded press statement issued by Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the coalition movement, the ADC accused Minister Wike of launching “virulent attacks” against coalition leaders out of fear of the growing popularity and momentum of the opposition coalition.

“The Minister’s outburst is incompatible with the high office he occupies,” the statement read. “We believe Wike descended to this level because of his mortal fear of the threat posed by the successful unveiling of the coalition of opposition political parties to the government he serves.”

The ADC argued that if the current administration had fulfilled its promises to Nigerians, there would have been no need for a coalition movement in the first place. The party criticized Wike’s handling of the FCT, pointing to the lingering strike by primary school teachers, alleged neglect of workers, and a focus on what it described as “white elephant projects” worth billions of naira.

The party also took exception to Wike’s claim that the coalition leaders are driven by grievances, stating that their only grievance is the hardship and poverty inflicted on Nigerians by the present government.

“We are aggrieved to see the children of the poor unable to access education because their teachers’ salaries remain unpaid. We are aggrieved by the growing insecurity in the FCT under Wike’s watch. And we are deeply concerned that he allowed himself to be used to wreck the PDP – one of Africa’s most formidable political parties.”

The statement concluded by affirming the resilience of the coalition movement, describing it as a people-driven force born out of failed promises and deepening hopelessness.

“No amount of tirade against coalition leaders can stop the tide of this popular movement,” Abdullahi declared.
