Tunbosun Awe, a political aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba representing Ondo North Senatorial District, has resigned his position, citing a monthly salary of N20,000 as the reason.

Awe, who served as the ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North East Local Government Area, announced his resignation in a letter made public in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He described the salary as inadequate, especially when compared to the current national minimum wage of N70,000. “This is a far cry from present economic realities,” Awe wrote, noting that his appeals for a salary increase were repeatedly ignored.

He further lamented that the senator had been paying him the same amount since 2007 when he served as his personal assistant. Awe traced their political association back to 2006 during the launch of the senator’s campaign structure under the banner “Concept 2007,” where he served as secretary.

Awe also recalled working with Ipinsagba when the senator held a government appointment under the late Governor Olusegun Agagu.

Despite his grievances, the former aide expressed appreciation to the senator for the opportunity to serve over the years.

Efforts to reach Senator Ipinsagba’s spokesperson, Yinka Ajagunna, were unsuccessful. However, a staunch supporter of the senator, Bankole Akerele, criticized Awe, describing him as ungrateful.

Akerele alleged that Awe had shifted allegiance to other political figures, which may have influenced his decision to resign. He added that Awe should have shown respect and appreciation instead of making the issue public.
