Abuja, July 3, 2025 — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked reports circulating on social media suggesting that the party has directed its members to join a proposed Coalition Group.

 

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP clarified that it has not taken any official position on any coalition arrangement. The party said its current priority is to strengthen internal unity and prepare for its upcoming National Convention.

 

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC states in clear terms that the PDP has not taken any official position on the issue of Coalition,” the statement read. “The PDP is for now focused on building and consolidating on attained unity, stability and strengthening of its structures and capacity to play its roles as the leading opposition Party determined to return to power in 2027.”

 

According to the statement, the party is working “conscientiously” to ensure a successful convention that will revamp and reposition it for the 2027 general elections.

While denying any formal coalition plans, the PDP noted that it remains open to alliances with “well-meaning, like-minded citizens” in efforts to rescue Nigeria from what it described as the “rudderless and insensitive” APC-led administration.

The party expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their continued loyalty and assured that all necessary strategies are being put in place to regain power in 2027.
