The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has made explosive allegations against his predecessor and former ally, Rotimi Amaechi, claiming that he risked his life and spent all his resources to ensure Amaechi became the Governor of Rivers State in 2007.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday night, Wike accused Amaechi of deceit, hypocrisy, and lacking integrity. According to him, despite Amaechi’s years in top political offices, he remains without a house in his name — a situation Wike described as “a spiritual problem.”

“I am not a bush man; my background is not like the level Amaechi came from,” Wike said. “Amaechi was Speaker for eight years, governor for another eight, and doesn’t have a house. Amaechi has a spiritual problem.”

However, Wike claimed that Amaechi secretly owns luxurious properties in Abuja’s Guzape district and Port Harcourt’s GRA, contradicting his modest public image.

“You can’t be a poor man and have all these properties. His house is in GRA. I live in Guzape; I know his house there,” Wike said.

“It’s unfortunate. I watch him and wonder — is this the character that wants to be Nigeria’s president? I feel so bad even discussing a man’s wife,” Wike stated.

Recounting events during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Wike said he played a central role in helping Amaechi secure the Rivers State governorship despite serious political hurdles. He disclosed that during the height of the crisis, Amaechi was moved to Ghana, and Wike feared for his own life.

“In the name of God, I put my life at risk. I called my wife and said, ‘Take my children away; I don’t know what will happen. If I don’t survive, that’s how God wants it,’” he revealed.

Wike narrated how Amaechi later sidelined him politically, wrongly believing he had done Wike a favour.

“Amaechi thought he was doing me a favour by pushing me out; he couldn’t have made it without me. I was a DG — I’m not a pushover politician,” Wike said.

He further named individuals such as Marcus Nneji, Bello Adoke, Magnus Abe, and Idozu, urging them to confirm his claims that he invested all his resources into Amaechi’s political success.

Wike also clarified that he never asked Amaechi for financial positions but only requested to be made Chief of Staff at the Rivers State Government House.

“I told Amaechi I want to be Chief of Staff; I didn’t want finance,” he concluded.
