A successful operation, security operatives in Anambra State repelled an attack launched by armed hoodlums in the early hours of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Ekwulobia Fly-Over in Aguata Local Government Area.
According to a press release issued by the Mayor of Aguata LGA, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, the Anambra State Police-led Joint Team (Forward Operating Base) stationed in the area, in collaboration with the Agunaechemba Squad (Aguata Unit), effectively contained the threat.
Eyewitnesses reported sporadic gunfire in the vicinity, causing panic among residents. However, the security forces swiftly responded and engaged the attackers. One of the armed criminals was neutralized, and four vehicles and firearms were recovered from the scene.
Tragically, two members of the Agunaechemba Squad were fatally injured during the confrontation, and one of their operational vehicles was burnt from gunshot impacts.
Mayor Ofobuike praised the bravery and professionalism of the security personnel, describing their actions as a testament to the ongoing efforts of Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo to secure Anambra State. He acknowledged the Governor’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure, which he said has equipped local forces with the tools needed to safeguard the region.
“I urge our people to go about their normal businesses,” the Mayor stated, reassuring residents that security operatives remain vigilant and ready to protect lives and property at all times.
