The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, bringing an end to the legal challenge filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
In a unanimous judgment delivered today, the apex court dismissed Ighodalo’s appeal for lacking merit, stating that there was no substantial evidence of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act during the 2024 governorship election in the state.

The court held that the PDP and its candidate failed to prove their case and therefore could not overturn the election results, which saw Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerge victorious.
The Supreme Court made no order as to cost.
