In a solemn announcement on Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The late Nigerian leader passed away in London at approximately 4:30 p.m., after a prolonged illness.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed his deep condolences to the widow of the late President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, during a phone call earlier today.
To honour the legacy of his predecessor, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, after previously holding office as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
In tribute to the former leader, President Tinubu has also ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff across the country.
