The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned its embattled former National Chairman, Julius Abure, over a viral image showing him exchanging pleasantries with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The party described the encounter as yet another clear indication of Abure’s alleged alignment with forces determined to undermine the Labour movement from within.

In a scathing statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media to the LP’s acting National Chairman, Ken Asogwa, the party disowned Abure, accusing him of fraternising with political elements that are working against the will of Nigerians.

“This man, Abure, is not one of us. He is a shameless opportunist, parading himself as chairman while rubbing shoulders with political saboteurs. He doesn’t speak for LP. He never did,” Asogwa stated.

The party expressed outrage that while prominent LP figures such as its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are engaging Nigerians on national issues, and others like Senator Nenadi Usman are representing party interests abroad, Abure is “busy wining and dining with the very tyrants Nigerians rejected at the polls.”

The statement further alleged that Abure has long distanced himself from the party’s core struggles, consistently absent during critical moments such as the Lagos local council elections, campaign flag-offs in Kogi, Edo, and Anambra States, and other party-building events.

“He only shows up when it is time to strike deals or for photo ops with those who seek to dismantle everything LP stands for,” the party said.

Reiterating that Abure remains suspended, the LP clarified that he holds “no position, no mandate, no moral authority to speak for us,” and declared unequivocally: “Julius Abure is not of the Labour Party.”

The statement also questioned Abure’s motives, describing his alleged political double-dealing as a betrayal of the people’s trust. “His romance with Wike and other enemies of progress raises only one question: Whose script is he reading from? Certainly, not that of the Nigerian people.”

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to its founding values and called on supporters to remain vigilant and resist distractions from individuals it described as “pawns of political tyranny.”
