In a press statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party disclosed that Ezenwafor was ambushed and attacked by assailants while returning from an appointment in the Federal Capital Territory. Though details of the incident remain sketchy, the PDP described the attack as a “desperate move” by forces threatened by the candidate’s rising popularity ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.

The party alleged that the assault was politically motivated, noting that it believes certain “anti-democratic elements” are unsettled by Ezenwafor’s growing support base. The PDP further claimed it had uncovered plots to launch a smear campaign against the candidate following the failed attempt on his life.

“This attack on our candidate is another sad commentary on the alarming level of insecurity in the country under the overtly insensitive, corrupt and abysmally rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC) administration,” the statement read.

The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police to launch an immediate investigation, apprehend the culprits and ensure the safety of Ezenwafor and other political actors in the lead-up to the election.

Reaffirming its support for the candidate, the party insisted that no level of violence, intimidation or propaganda would deter its resolve to install what it described as a transparent and people-oriented government in Anambra State.

“We urge Chief Ezenwafor not to be dispirited by the attack. Anambra remains a PDP stronghold, and the people are firmly behind our mission for good governance,” the statement concluded.
