A pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the banner of APC National Youth Ambassadors, has thrown its weight behind former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, calling on President Bola Tinubu and party leaders to appoint him as the next National Chairman of the ruling party.

This endorsement comes just days before the APC’s scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday.
In a joint statement signed by the group’s National Chairman, Kabiru Abdulhamid; Deputy Chairman (South), Dominic Odigo; National Women Leader, Salma Musa; and South-South Women Leader, Rita Embiowei, the group hailed Al-Makura as a “tested and loyal party man” capable of leading the APC into future victories.
The group commended President Tinubu for recently appointing Al-Makura as Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), describing it as a step in the right direction.
“Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura distinguished himself when he served as the governor of Nasarawa State and later as a senator. He is a man of the people with a strong national appeal,” the statement read.
They emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership in the APC, pointing out that the party had earlier zoned the chairmanship position to the North Central region — the same region that produced Senator Abdullahi Adamu before his resignation.
“As a progressive party committed to the welfare of the people and Nigeria’s socio-economic development, it is only proper that we bring our best hands forward,” the group stated. “We believe that Al-Makura’s leadership would further drive the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.”
With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, the group insisted that the APC needs a chairman with national reach and grassroots connection. “Senator Al-Makura fits this bill perfectly, as his influence and relationship with the people cut across all six geo-political zones,” the group concluded.
