“Honestly, I didn’t want to watch the match initially because I didn’t want High Blood Pressure (HBP),” the President admitted. “But when some people came in and turned on my TV, I started watching.”

According to the President, the early moments of the match were tough to bear. “When it got 2-0 against us, I was offended,” he said. However, hope was restored when Nigeria pulled one goal back, and eventually surged ahead with a stunning comeback. “We scored 1, I became assured. And we scored 3 goals.”

President Tinubu also recalled a lighthearted moment during the match. “My wife was cooking my food in the kitchen, rushed out to tell me we have won. I said the game is still on.”

Reflecting on the final whistle, he described the feeling as a national relief: “It was a relief moment for me and all Nigerians.”
