Abakaliki — The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI, GGCEHF, has wielded the big stick against senior government officials who failed to attend a key state function, ordering their immediate suspension from office for a period of one month without salary.

The affected officials include 25 Commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants, 24 Special Assistants, and 22 Permanent Secretaries. According to a directive issued on Monday, July 28, 2025, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, the officials were sanctioned for gross dereliction of duty and disregard for official protocols.
The Governor further instructed that during the suspension period, none of the affected persons is allowed to sign official documents. In the case of Commissioners, they are to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries.
