Melaye’s defection comes just minutes after he publicly announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to tackle what he described as “political cankerworms” undermining the nation’s democracy.
In his statement, the outspoken former lawmaker expressed disappointment in the PDP’s internal crisis and lack of will to address the broader challenges facing Nigeria’s political landscape.
With this move, Melaye joins a growing list of prominent opposition figures who have recently pitched their tents with the ADC, including former Senate President David Mark, Ovation Magazine publisher Chief Dele Momodu, former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, and other notable politicians.
He was formally received today by the leadership of the ADC in Kogi State, amid growing anticipation that the party may play a bigger role in the nation’s political future.
