In a letter dated August 1, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Akinyemi Fakorede, Head of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, Sowore was directed to appear at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, August 4, 2025, by 10:00 a.m.

According to the police, the invitation is in connection with a case reported on July 31, 2025, in which Sowore’s name was “prominently mentioned.”

The letter, issued from the IGP Monitoring Unit, stated:

> “This office is investigating the above-mentioned case reported on 31st July 2025 in which your name featured prominently. In view of the foregoing and in the spirit of fair hearing, you are kindly requested to interview the undersigned… at the Monitoring Unit… to shed more light on the allegations.”

The police emphasized that the invitation is in line with Section 53(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2025.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, is no stranger to law enforcement scrutiny, having faced multiple arrests and detentions in the past over activism-related issues.

In Responding to the Invitation, Sowore on his verified Facebook handle posted:

The illegal IGP of Nigeria Police Force Kayode Egbetokun is excreting bricks and can’t stand the heat anymore, so he’s embarked again on another voyage, considering that his “cybercrime” farcical trial and the seizure of my International passport didn’t work. He’s invited me to his “IGP” Monitoring unit section for “ Forgery and INCTING Disturbance” investigations they claimed.

I will be there on Monday, and I’ll be inviting all our people in the revolutionary struggle to come with me. #EgbetokunMustGo
