Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has taken a swipe at politicians pledging to serve only one term in office, declaring that such individuals may require psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking at a rally in Anambra South held to endorse his second-term ambition, Soludo dismissed one-term campaign promises as unrealistic and misleading. He openly challenged proponents of the idea to provide evidence of where such a promise had been fulfilled in Nigeria’s political history.

In a veiled jab believed to be directed at Labour Party’s Peter Obi and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar—both of whom at various points made one-term pledges—Soludo said,

“Anyone offering to serve for just one term as an elected public officer needs psychiatric examination. Tell me where it has ever happened.”

The governor further argued that the Nigerian Constitution clearly provides for two terms in office for elected executive positions, and questioned why any serious candidate would campaign on a promise that runs contrary to constitutional allowances.
